ALCA CHECK [BN]

Features: Benefits: Alcaline lubrication oils are used for the operation of combustion engines operating on heavy fuel oils that have a high sulphur content. It is necessary to maintain a level of alcalinity in the lubrication oil to protect the engine against corrosive acid attack.

This so called "alcaline reserve" in the lubrication oil should be regulary controlled to avoid engine damages.

The unit for measuring the alcaline reserve is the Base Number. (BN) formerly known also as Total Base Number (TBN). An apprecation of this level enables the engineer to have close control over the condition of the system oil. The determination of Base No. (BN) is simple using MARTECHNIC® equipment and the test will show accurate results within 20 minutes.

In case you have not the right BN chart in your hands you could do the test once with a fresh oil sample as reference before you start the first test with a used oil. You will get the actual BN with following calculation:

BN (used oil) = BN (fresh oil) Gauge reading (used oil)
Gauge reading (fresh oil)

Take the BN (fresh oil) from the lube oil data sheet - provided from the respective lubeoil supplier.
