Pour Point Check
Pour Point Determination
With regard to the heavy fuel oil and its viscosity value, it is important to ensure high enough temperatures to store and to use oil in the operation of the engine system of a vessel. The test method POUR POINT CHECK allows determination of the lowest temperature of the oil sample at which the oil becomes solid, and thereby helps to monitor proper HFO fluidity directly on-site and on a regular basis.
Features
- Measuring range: - 20 °C to + 30°C
- Measuring time: about 10 min.
- Accuracy: +/- 2°C
Benefits
- Applicable for all (heavy) fuel oils
- Simple and quick test method
- Direct temperature read-out in °C
- Easy to use even for untrained personnel
First, a warm oil sample is cooled down with the help of the cooling spray until the oil ceases to flow. The corresponding temperature is noted as the temperature A. After that the sample is gradually warmed up until the oil flows again. The corresponding temperature is noted as the temperature B. The average of both temperatures denotes the average value of the pour point of the oil sample.
